Deepika Padukone ==Profile==
Deepika Padukone (born January 5, 1986) is an Indian model turned actress. Deepika Padukone is daughter of former World badminton Champion Prakash Padukone and mother Ujjala Padukone, Deepika grew up into a sultry model with dreams in her eyes to make it big in showbiz industry. Though she played badminton during her school days and reached to the level of a State player, she did not take her game to the national level as she had set her sights on the glamorous world of showbiz. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, at eleven months old she moved to Mangalore, Karnataka when her family returned to India

She attended high school in Dehli. She was a proud member of the dance club run by her father. She has been modeling for advertising Liril soap, Dabur Lal powder Part plus shampoo and Limca, receiving many prestigious modelling offers, including brand ambassadorship of the Jewels of India, an annual jewellery festival. She hit the international scene when Maybelline made her their new international covergirl face.
At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, she was awarded the title of Model of the Year. Shortly afterwards, she was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006. She also won two trophies at the Idea Zee F Awards in 2006 - Female Model of the year (Commercial Assignments) and Fresh Face of the year. She recently did a commercial for Moods condoms. She is a brand ambassador for Kingfisher Airlines

Deepika Padukone looks a natural athlete with a height of 5 ft 9 inches. She was born on January 5th 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark and spent her childhood in Bangalore. She did her schooling from Sophia’s High School, Bangalore and completed her undergraduate program from Mount Carmel College. Deepika Padukone entered the international Scenario with her first campaign with Maybelline, one of the most renowned cosmetic brands. Deepika Padukone was associated with the glamour world from the very childhood and has appeared in various advertisement campaigns including that of Close-up, Liril and so on. Deepika Padukone has received formal training in Bharatnatyam dancing and has also played badminton at the state level like her father. But unlike her father she could not continue the game because of her board exams and to add to this was acting which was her passion as she could associate herself with it but she was not very comfortable with playing badminton. Deepika’s mother, Ujjala Padukone is a travel agent. This beautiful actress has a younger sister named Anisha. Her graceful appearance and dimpled smile made her feature in Kingfisher’s Swimsuit calendar 2006. The title for the female model of the year for commercial assignments and Fresh Face of the year at Idea Zee F Awards has also been awarded to her. This actress has maintained her stardom with grace as she is very calm and composed. Aishwariya Rai is her idol and to be like her she has a long way to go in her acting career.

Deepika's schooling was done in Sophia's High School, Bangalore and she did her undergraduate studies from Mount Carmel College. Her father is the legendary Badminton player Prakash Padukone who was one of India's greatest sportsmen. Her mother is a travel agent.
Padukone has branched out from modeling into acting. She started by starring in the music video for Naam Hai Tera a song from the pop album Aap Ka Suroor, an independent album by Himesh Reshammiya.
More recently Padukone made her cinematic debut in a Kannada film Aishwarya. Padukone made her Bollywood debut in the Farah Khan- directed film Om Shanti Om, opposite Shah Rukh Khan. In the movie, she has been depicted as a 1970s superstar Shantipriya and later as Sandhya aka Sandy. Padukone has already signed Priyadarshan's next film Pirate, and Made In China opposite Akshay Kumar.

Deepika got her formal training from the maestro himself who is none other than Mr. Anupam Kher. His training institution was the place where she got her formal acting training from. She was a quick learner as well as a very dedicated student.
Like the usual trend in Bollywood, Deepika Padukone has already been linked with various men and the recent gossip is her relationship with the famous cricketer Mahindra Singh Dhoni.
Now leaving apart the reel life and coming to her real life, Deepika Padukone is a very timid person with lots of values which she has inherited from her parents. She is not at all an extrovert. During her spare time, she is either spending time with her friends and if not that she prefers to fly home and spend time with her family. Her favourite films are Matrix and Charlie’s Angels. She has always admired three women in the industry whom she saw acting when she was growing up and they are none other than Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and of course Aishwariya Rai.

Kalpana Lajmi wants to work with Deepika Padukone
Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi, who wrote the political drama 'Singhasan' with Aishwarya Rai in mind, now wants to make it with Deepika Padukone, who is a distant relative.
"I saw her in 'Om Shanti Om' and 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' and found her to possess that old world grace that comes naturally to Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai. I don't think any other girl today has that quality. I was once planning to cast Aishwarya as a politician in 'Singhasan'. I'd love to cast Deepika in that role," Lajmi told us. "Maybe she can get R.K. Films to produce it," she joked. But the director isn't sure Deepika would reciprocate her enthusiasm. "Why should she? I'm a down-and-out filmmaker. I haven't put a project together in the last three years because of various reasons, the main being finances. A filmmaker like me suffers a double disadvantage by being a woman," said Lajmi, who has made films like 'Chingaari' and 'Daman'. Explaining her relationship with Deepika, she said: "We're both descendents of the great Guru Dutt. Deepika and I are Saraswat Brahmins. Her family and mine can be traced back to Kashmir. We're basically evicted Kashmiri pundits who migrated to Bangalore.
"If you remember my uncle Guru Dutt (her artist mother Lalita Lajmi's brother) was settled in Bangalore and so is Deepika's father Prakash Padukone. Deepika is definitely related to me, though she doesn't know it. But I hope she knows about me," Lajmi said. Lajmi has been seeing a series of illnesses in her family, first her parents and then her guru and companion, composer Bhupen Hazarika. Lajmi, who started as an assistant to Shyam Benegal, says she's very proud of her mentor. "At the ripe old age of 74, Shyam babu has made a hit film, 'Welcome To Sajjanpur'. He had to struggle for years to make the project come true. As for me, I'm so much his junior and still can't get funds for my new film," she said. Source: IANS

Don’t compare me with Priyanka : Deepika Padukone
21 Dec 2008, She’s still as politically correct as ever’. ‘Is Ranbir also in town?’ These were just some of the musings doing the rounds at a recent event where namma hudugi Deepika Padukone was in attendance for a brand endorsement. The actress was also taking a short break visiting her family. BT caught up with her.
I’m different... Don’t compare me with Priyanka Chopra just because she’s done stunts in Drona and I’ve done action sequences in Chandni Chowk to China (CC2C). Each person is unique and so am I. I worked hard for six months to learn those stunts and was specially trained by experts from Hong Kong.
I’m glad film-makers recognise my talent... I will be playing a dual role once again in CC2C, after Om Shanti Om. So, I’m happy that film-makers find me capable of portraying different roles. It’s given me confidence and much satisfaction.
Wearing those tight wigs for CC2C was painful... One of the two roles I play in the film is that of a Chinese girl. Which is why it was necessary for me to wear those tight wigs with a fringe. Even my eyes had to be stretched out for the role. It really hurt to stay like that till pack-up, but the effort was worth it.
I feel fortunate to have worked with some of the top heroes... From Shah Rukh Khan to Akshay Kumar. And now I’m working with Saif Ali Khan for Imtiaz Ali’s next film, after which I will be working with Akshay once again. Akshay is such a fantastic guy and has so many years of experience. I learnt so much from him. I’m glad I’ve got to work with all of them so early in my career.
What is Sandalwood?... If that’s what the Kannada industry is called now, I didn’t know that. But I did learn a lot from my debut, Aishwarya. It helped me a lot in my second film, OSO. If I get an interesting project here, I’ll definitely do it.
Bangalore will always be my home... Although I don’t come here often on work, I come here to meet my family. And despite all the development that’s going on, it’s nice to see that people are still simple and down-to-earth like alwa
